General Don's Muster of 1815

February 1793, France again declared a war with England - and in Jersey the local Militia was the prime defensive force. In 1806 General George Don took the appointment of Jersey's Lieutenant-Governor and immediately called a Muster, a register of all the island's men, aged over 18 years, who qualified for Militia service and details of their households. This muster was repeated in 1815, parish by parish. (Members of the Royal Court and Police were exempt from military service.)
